My Christmas Gift

My Christmas GIft.

Christmas at the curate’s house is almost over. The tree is down (causing many tears from Miss F!), the lights are packed away and only the crib scene, wise men now attending, remains.

In the midst of the busyness I managed to have a parenting win.

A week before Christmas a friend came by and asked Miss F (aged 2.5) ‘who’s coming at Christmas?’ expecting her to reply ‘Father Christmas’ but instead she promptly responded ‘Geesus’

It took a lot to contain my proud mother fist pump!

Despite the busyness, I’m grateful for this Christmas as it’s really cemented Jesus as a person in our home. The combination of nightly reading of our Christmas nativity book and increased linguistic ability has meant that Miss F now associates the name ‘Geesus’ with the words:

Now that’s a Christmas gift I’ll treasure!

  1. Beautiful. By next Christmas she can learn to tell people that Jesus is the Reason for the Season.

wonderful! I remember when my youngest was 4 and we went to see Father Christmas in Selfridges. “And what will YOU be doing on Thursday?” he asked “Celebrating Jesus birthday!” she replied loudly. nearly 30 years on, she is still doing that – praying that your little one will grow in her faith too.

That’s lovely! We too have been enjoying reading the bible together as a family this Advent (although my four are a lot older). We read a chapter each night from Mathew’s gospel & a story from the Jesus Storybook Bible. It’s amazing the conversations that have happened as a result of our candle lit bible readings together. So simple, but so significant! 🙂

It’s such a challenge to bring up children in the faith but I’ve found if anything it’s given me opportunities to grow- regular thank you prayers before bed etc.
